Ghost Guitar
Ghost Guitar is a painting of grief and celebration. Losing the ability to play music and perform at gigs was incredibly challenging to accept. Not knowing if and when I would be ever to do either again added a layer of turmoil to the baseline physical and emotional consequence of BIND (Benzodiazepine Induced Neurological Dysfunction). Simultaneously I clung to hope, and a deep sense of feeling that one day writing and playing music again would be possible. Like a ghost: intangible yet distinguishable by presence, the dreams of music were ever present throughout this recovery journey, both in the haunts of opportunities lost, and in the hope of possibilities to come.
Created using acrylic and charcoal, Ghost Guitar’s muted tones and shadowy textures evoke the complexity of navigating hope through loss. Ghost Guitar's creation reflects the layered emotions of grief and hope experienced throughout recovery. The piece also speaks to the ways in which music can feel part of our DNA; abstractly present as musical memories dance with us through life.
