Countryside Van Trip mirrors the dreams of being able to travel in a van, songwriting along the way as part of the film - and feeling free again.
I grew up in the rural countryside of Shropshire (UK), first in a village called Minsterely, and then in the Stiperstones Hills, near the border of Wales. The landscape consisted of rolling hills that seemed to be alive and evoking different personalities as the seasons changed. Our garden backed straight onto a vertical woodland, and from here my brother and I would go on treks and adventures across the hills.
Sometimes I would sneak out a pan from my parent's kitchen, and some eggs and cook breakfast along the natural springs in the hillsides. During the 5 years of being mostly housebound, and largely bedbound for the first few years, I would daydream of exploring green countryside again; of feeling back at home. The idea of being in a van, lined with outlets for music and art is one of the ultimate 'places' and experiences of freedom that I can imagine.
When home is nowhere, it is also everywhere.
